Portal of the Damned

"This is what Newgrounds is all about!"

date: November 1, 2006

Awesome tribute to NG artists, the site, Halloween, and probably a few other things I'll remember later.
As can be counted on, Luis syncs the music with the action flawlessley. The whole thing looks professional, great results with the artist cameos; I know it's not something everyone has the privilege of doing, but it really adds a great element to this movie that screams out Newgrounds. OMG Madness Zombies was a literal "lol" moment. Bad ass seeing Krinkels in there!
Your animation is great. Character movements, shadows, weight... it would be hard to match for anybody, making the whole thing extremely easy to watch.
Great job on everything... those graphics, 'specially the graveyard stuff was really outstanding, heh.
As always, it's a privilege working with you.

"Outstanding game!"

submission: Starfire
date: October 23, 2005

I love the interactivity of this game. Everything about its playability is absolutely awesome. I'd say the graphics are pretty sub-par, but at least the game doesn't use all my CPU because of it, and honestly, the look of the thing is perfectly fine.
The only real complaint I have is the lack of checkpoints, a pause button, and above all, there needs to be more than just one life per play... but it's your game. Just a suggestion on my part.
Overall, I really enjoyed the hell out of this and will definately be playing it off and on for quite a while I think. Good job!

I think I've seen another entry on the Portal like this... In fact, some of the scenes in this are so stikingly similar to those found in the movie I'm talking about, that I'd find it hard to believe that there wasn't some sort of credit due.
Anyway, I thought this was pretty decent (even though I feel my toes were stepped on!).
The tweens were pretty smooth, and the music was nice. I also liked the black and white style. Nice, but my toes still hurt :)

DrumKit v.1 Beta

"Something is lacking here, but it's decent."

submission: DrumKit v.1 Beta
date: June 28, 2004

I think you did a great job at making something "fun", but this really seems to lack the ability to do anything more than make noise. I thought your integration of the mouse and keyboard was impressive, but what really made me give this a low score were (what I thought) the sound effects that you chose to give the various drums/cymbals. I don't ever remember a hi-hat sounding like a tom.
At any rate, I thought you still did a fine job on this, which kept me from giving it a "Blammable" score.
You might have something here if you work on it more and present the ability to actually play this kit.

"I can really appreciate your attempt."

date: May 24, 2004

Trust me, if there's anyone here on the Portal who can appreciate what you were trying to do here, it would be me.
I have to say that I was expecting something of rather poor quality, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that you decided to take your time with a little bit of frame by frame animation. I was also pleased that you decided to take an original approach by following your own storyline, too. I know how hard it can be to do something like this, and this was a decent attempt at a classic. Keep practicing, and make more if this is your style. God knows, someone needs to bring back the classic animation style.
Good job!

Brent.

Small, Medium, Large

"This was great!"

date: January 14, 2004

My god, I had the same exact rant no more than a week ago at the Starbucks at the mall when a friend and I went out for a cup of coffee. They asked me if I wanted a f'n tall, grande, or venti, which I then replied "Why don't you give me a LARGE, huh?"
Or, how about when you're at the movie theatre and you ask for a small drink and they tell you that they don't have small? Instead, they have medium, large, and jumbo! Just give me the fucking medium then!
I like Foamy, my friend... Keep it up. I can really relate to Foamy and his rants. Thank you.

"It was okay."

submission: DOA, trailer 1
date: January 8, 2004

But you do realize that there was virtually no animation in this what-so-ever, with the exception of the text and some marginal motion tweens. Still, I thought it was okay. Your sound was done well, and the drawings weren't too bad at all.
I don't care too much for 'trailers' myself, but with that aside, it's okay.

The Problem with Mimics

"Though it smelled a little like 8 Bit Theater,"

date: January 7, 2004

It was original enough for me to like. It was short as hell (as I'm sure you already know), but it got the point across none the less. I thought it was pretty funny as I've had my own trouble with Mimes in FFT. Sound was good, Animation was fine, and your drawings were smooth. Overall, I give this a solid satisfactory score.
I like it!

The only real complaint I have about it is that it ends way too abruptly. With such a large file size and quality animation, I was expecting a lot more in your story. Still, you executed it beautifully, and your backgrounds were excellent. Good job!

Author's Response:

Hmm yeah, maybe you're right, do you have any suggestions on another ending?

For the animation/Flash value in this:
There's nothing too special about it other than the fact that you discovered how to import .jpeg's into your library. The animation at the beginning was terrible, though and you get a low score for sound because you failed to compress it properly. Overall, this was a bad attempt at Flash since it lacked so many of the defining qualities that make a decent movie.
As for whatever message you were trying to convey:
If I were to ever meet you in person, I'd kick your ass. Still, I've gotta' respect your right to Free Speech... One of the many terrible things you get to enjoy in such a bad country, isn't it?
